There is something incredibly thrilling about pushing the limit of how many times two or four players can hit a ball back and forth without it touching the ground. This constant rally between players brings out a hint of anxiety matched with a massive smile and laughter. However, up and down the Mediterranean Coast this was not always a peaceful game…
In Israel, Matkot came as a welcome surprise to some but a nightmare for others. Beach communities turned boardwalks into dueling stations and waterfront properties into war zones. Each aggressive strike got faster and harder which sometimes wound-up hitting beachgoers. Communities rose up in anger and demanded the game be outlawed but the local players rallied on! While we don’t recommend hitting anyone with a paddle unless they deserve or ask for it, but we do love the fierce spirit of these Ralliers. It is in honor of traditions such as Matkot, Smashball, and so on that Playavole created Speed Rally
Speed Rally is a game where two players or four players hit the ball back and forth as many times as they can in the shortest amount of time. The spirit of the game is worded best by Yonaton Nevo, "Not to beat, we both play together, both on the same team, and we are trying both of us, to do it harder and faster than we can." If you got nerves of steel and a solid stroke, come out to a Rallython and let’s see what you’re made of! If you curious to learn more about Speed Rally, check out the video below.
